Teacher Spotlight- Ms. Amigon!

My name is Ms. Amigón. I am teaching 2nd grade during the 2025-2026 school year. This will be my third year teaching at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy. I have previously taught grades 6-8 (math & science) and grades 2-4 throughout my teaching career at both private and public schools. I discovered my passion for teaching when I was 16 years old. I began as a camp counselor and teacher’s assistant while I was attending high school and later on college. I graduated with honors from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Elementary Education and minor in Math & Science Concepts for Middle School Teaching back in 2013. I have endorsements in English as a Second Language (ESL), language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. During my free time, I like to read books, travel, hike, play sports, swim, ice-skate, attend musicals/concerts, and go running. I am trilingual (English, Spanish, & French). I am learning a fourth language: Polish. I have three pets: one orange tabby cat named Caramel and two rare parakeets named Elsa and Frosty. My hope is that our students will become interested in learning about our world and become lifelong learners in our classroom. I look forward to an exciting and adventurous school year.

“It’s worth dreaming big when you are willing to put in the work that is needed to accomplish the goal you have. Obviously, the more difficult the goal, the more you will have to work…but everything is possible, and you should dare to dream big.”
