Support for Thorp Families

Benefits are scheduled to expire for all SNAP recipients this Saturday — November 1, 2025. This will present challenges for many of our families. I want to reassure you that we will do everything possible to support our families during this time. Every CPS student will continue to have access to free breakfast and lunch at school every day. We are working with Thorp's parent organizations to help families who may need assistance. We are also sharing resources that may help families obtain healthy meals and groceries.

Families can visit the We Got You Illinois website for a comprehensive list of food pantries, meal programs, and food distribution partners, including hours and locations, throughout Chicago and Cook County.

Food banks near Thorp are located here. Please call for hours of operation to donate or receive food.

Families can also call the Healthy Kids Hotline at (773) 553-KIDS (5437) for assistance in finding food options in Chicago.

As a school we will also be using the Care Portal to request help for families in need from churches and organizations in the surrounding neighborhood. If you need support or if you know of a family that may need help during this difficult time; please reach out to our counseling team: Ms. Daly [email protected] or Ms. Murray [email protected]. Your requests will be completely confidential.

Parents who are looking to help may want to reach out to Friends of Thorp.

We thank you for your continued support

International Day

Are you part of an Irish or Latin Dance Company? Do you play a unique world instrument like the Cuatro Guitar or Dholak drum? Are you able to recite a poem in a different language? We are looking for performers and presenters to share and celebrate diverse cultures, talents, and art forms from around the world! Please fill out the following Google Form (also posted on Music Standards Google Classrooms)."

Communication Survey-Please fill out!

All CPS schools are required to write a Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) that sets goals to better our school. One of our CIWP priorities is to improve communication among all stakeholders. Aligning with our CIWP priorities, our parent Communications Committee wants your feedback on the communication protocols that are established at Thorp. This survey is brief, so please fill out ONE PER child (i.e. fill out 3 times if you have 3 children, as each grade level may be different). If you have additional comments you would like to provide administration, please email [email protected].

LSC Special Meeting

We will conduct a special LSC Meeting to discuss ways to help Thorp families during the current SNAP crisis as well as procedures to ensure that we have have a way of helping families throughout the school year. Our LSC meeting will be on Monday 11/03/2025 @ 7:30AM in the library. You may join our virtual meeting by going to oathorpacademy.org/lscmeeting .
