An introduction by Ms. McNally and Mr. Toledo to our start of the year Open House.

hello everybody and welcome to tonight's open house we are very grateful that you're here with us and I think you're going to have a great time meeting children's teachers are going to have a great time getting to know you as well so we're going to take you through the presentation that we would normal you and I are on a torium but we really wanted to give you more time in the classrooms today so we're going to get started by just letting you all know that has been around for a hundred years we are a phenomenal phenomenal scope for a long time I have the privilege of seeing students whose whose grandparents used to come before it really is a wonderful love wonderful feeling knowing that we could have really strong part of this community and we've had a long history of just wonderful learning happening for a really really long time we want to welcome all the parents that are coming in especially or keep your appearance in and as well as the very first time we are magnet school so that means that there are about 20-25 applicants in kindergarten through every single one of the the the seats that we have open in forest 7th grade there are literally probably between 6070 and 100 applicants per seat so again congratulations on being part of our community and welcome to the family I want to start off by telling you a little bit about the four commitment we you'll see this put on our walls throughout the building but as we said we were magnet school that means that none of students are allocated to us every single year we have to build on our reputation right so every student becomes the fourth is because because parents basically Believe in Us they believe that we're going to prove dear child with engaging in Innovative and relevant instruction that's going to prepare them for a successful 464 success in high school and Beyond we take this commitment of the heart and everything that we do is it centered around knowing that that you put your trust in us and again we never take that for granted coming through it over now to miss McNally was talking about the secret stores where is amazing family we have a sort of enjoyment please do so and friends if they done amazing things for our school our teachers students all right we also want to stress the 5 C's you'll hear I say that a lot and collaboration critical thinking creativity and Karen do I make sure this is apple pie in all the subjects and everywhere throughout the and problem-based learning so last year you saw the 44 or Gotta Wear teachers how to make boats and this year we're doing igniting imagination and if you can look at it video later with the survival and Mr Rosa by the teachers actually were able to make rockets this year both those gentlemen for an amazing work for that is at the core of what we do and the reason why we do these crazy things with the teachers at the beginning of the year and I know all the money at the room set up and you want to get started but we do the family starting challenges with them because I want to put them into the role that your children will have when they go into their classrooms don't forget to water the same thing that the children looks. So we want to make sure that that when we're doing this work we're being sensitive to the needs of our students but again or epicenter of this whole problem based learning an amazing teams at all grade levels with me encourage you to meet them tonight or reach out to them soon they do some in great practice is a differentiated classroom to make sure every child has challenged them at the same there in we have and what's what is amazing tenure of the staff I've been here Seventeen years and I don't think I'm even in the middle of the pack when it comes to 10 years so they're committed to your students and a students who want to make sure they're happy by having amazing programming a lot of after-school programs which I know you're anxious to hear about and you will don't worry that's the registrations coming shortly I'm starting the week of September 11th so you can see their theater program there we have cooking club we also offer extra support after school will also be hearing from the counseling staff and your own grade levels presentations about supports they're going to provide this year as well as an after-care program for students that if you need additional after care for your child and please reach out to us about that just want to thank all of you for coming out tonight but I especially wanted to extend our thanks to members of the military and our First Responders we are so blessed to have people who serve especially in our city we have the highest number of students whose whose parents are CPS employees than any other school that I know everyone knows that we have a lot of Civic engagement and our parents are very active but oftentimes you know I bet you this every single year sometimes overlooked so if your police fire EMT thank you or have you know are we can go that you sacrifice a lot for us you guys for everything that you do but thank you though everyone came out tonight we really do appreciate it and you're going to have a wonderful time learning about what's going to be happening this year thank you
